100 Senior Games for Darcy Barden

4 Aug 2017 by Lower Plenty Football Netball Club

Darcy started at RJFC in 1998 and played a club record 196 games there , sometimes three a day ! He would wait at the bottom of the stairs at Research park and count the bench of the next team coming down and beg the coach to fill that last spot available.

During his time at RJFC he won 4 B& F awards and one league B&F and played in two premierships. One in the under 11’s under the astute coaching of Harro and one in the 15’s in which he kicked 10 goals at CHF in an outstanding individual Best on ground performance.

In 2006 he played his first senior game under Harmesy at 16 years of age. From there he joined the Knights where he played 35 games and 6 games for Victorian Metro in the national carnival where he won the goalkicking and the Coaches award. He was also picked in the TAC cup team of the year in 2010.

He returned to Lower Plenty in 2011 and starred in our premiership win being awarded the Best on Ground medal and capped it off with the league Best and fairest award.

He was recruited to West Perth in 2012 to try to test himself with the best in order to try and secure his dream of being awarded a draft spot in the AFL. He played 18 games at West Perth and represented the WAFL in their under 23 rep side.

Darcy is currently in his fifth year as captain of Lower Plenty which is a club record for consecutive years as captain. He has won two Lower Plenty Best and fairest awards over the journey as well. He has also been named in the NFL team of the year twice.

Darcy also captained the Vic Police team last year to a carnival series win over WA.

An amazing resume for a young player not yet reached his peak. Well done to a Lower Plenty legend and an outstanding young man who leads the club with maturity way beyond his years. Lets secure a win over Diamond Creek this weekend to make Saturday a memorable day for him.
